Mai Chau eco-lordge

Our lodge had a great view over the rice fields which were being harvested during our visit. The room was charming, clean, plenty big enough with good storage and a treat of a bathroom including huge wooden bath. Excellent air conditioning and fan. The pool and gardens are lovely and we enjoyed the food, served by friendly staff. Each evening there was a display of traditional dancing which we enjoyed. This is a rural lodge so expect to see some wildlife, including lizards, butterflies and mosquitoes etc and the buildings are made from local materials, some might say rustic, adding to the charm. Good massage at a reasonable price.

We just arrived for a 3-night stay for our honeymoon. My husband surprised me by booking the ecolodge and my jaw dropped when we arrived. The lodge is beautiful with an incredible pool and tasty restaurant. The rooms are stunning. We have a view of the rice fields, incredibly large bathtub with fantastic shower, outdoor shower and a downstairs outdoor pool. Today we took a private bike tour around town and stopped at at the home of an elderly woman who we had tea with. The experience was fantastic and highly recommended. Huge thanks to the entire staff who surprised us with honeymoon decorations and treats in our room and also a cake after dinner. This is the ultimate place to relax and we can't wait to come back!

 My fiance and I stayed at the Mai Chau Ecolodge for 2 nights in a deluxe room. The deluxe rooms and the suites have the best views of the rice paddys and valley. We booked the shuttle bus option from Hanoi which arrived on time and we found it to be quite a comfortable trip. As we climbed higher into mountains and the scenery became lush and green, we were glad to leave Hanoi traffic behind.
We were warmly greeted and taken to our room through the lush gardens and along the slightly rustic stone paths and steps. Our room lived up to our expectations and was clean and tidy. Our outdoor shower area was private.
We spent the afternoon making use of the bicycles. So armed with a basic map, we headed of to discover the villages of this beautiful valley. All the villages are quite close together connected by concrete or dirt paths which were generally quite flat. This was a great way to see how the people lived in the villages and admire the wonderful scenery. Unlike our experience in Sapa, there was not one person trying to harass us to buy their wares.
Dinner in the restaurant was excellent, with many Vietnamese and other local offerings. Table service was of a polite and high standard. After dinner, a dance troupe performs traditional dances of the local White Thai people.
Breakfast consists of a good variety of buffet style food including an egg station and pho station.
We indulged in a massage at the spa and found it to be the best we experienced in Vietnam as well as being quite good value for money.
The staff were always smiling and ready to assist with an inquiry, especially the restaurant staff.
I can highly recommend a stay Mai Chau Ecolodge. We will stay for longer when we return.

Friendly service. The rooms were amazing, with wooden bathtubs and outdoor showers. It was a piece of heaven in the middle of nowhere. Amazing views of the mountains and the rice fields. The pool and bar were a great spot to meet people. Definitely worth using their bikes to tour around. Lots to see. Lots of photo opportunities nearby.

I have only positive words to say about this wonderful hotel. It is situated in a valley surrounded by stunning views. Our time was spent exploring the beautiful countryside and nearby villages. Our bungalow was spacious and excellently furnished as well as having a wide front terrace facing the valley. Amongst all this perfection, the hotel`s greatest asset is their staff with their immaculate service backed by ever smiling faces. Certainly, a place I am already yearning to return to.

We stayed one night as part of a Northern landscapes tour and opted for a deluxe room. It was definitely worth the extra. The rooms were gorgeous, spacious, with a lovely round wooden bathtub and outdoor shower with a live-in lizard who popped his head out when you were quiet! The view from the balcony / terrace was amazing over paddy fields to the village across the valley, you could just sit there and enjoy all day. There are all the amenities you need considering t is an ecolodge, but no TV, instead a local dance group provide the evening entertainment which was interactive and fun. The menu we had was a set meal, which was limited , as were the drinks and breakfast, however that did not detract from the fabulous rooms and views.

This is a great retreat from Hanoi, especially if you're in Vietnam long term. The lodge offers free bikes that you can use during the day to bike through local villages. There are at least 5 close by villages and the locals are extremely friendly. There are farm lands and rice field views around the Ecolodge which allows for a relaxing atmosphere. The pool is a good sized pool with a pool bar near by. The food is great and is a mix of Thai and Vietnamese. The Egg Plant dishes are the best. Each room/lodge has a great view of the surrounding nature.

Der Tipp nach Mai Chau zu reisen war genial. Die Ecolodge liegt wunderbar, umgeben von Reisfelden. Wir hatten hier die beste Tour mit einem Guide Namens Hui. Alles war super, das Essen, die Umgebung, die Touren(sehr ausgefallen), einfach umwerfend. Es gibt einen kleinen Wermutstropfen. Unser Raum, der nicht die höchste Preiskategorie war und optisch dennoch ganz toll hergerichtet war, roch muffig aufgrund der schattigen, feuchten Lage.

This is my second time here at Maichau Ecolodge, the feeling is just the same with the first one. Climbing up to the receptionist area seeing the clouds and the moutains makes me feel relaxed. Rooms are spacious and nice. The bungalow with private garden and outdoor shower will give you an unforgettable experience, the view from the balcony is amazing (please book a Junior Deluxe or Deluxe room to get a private area and nice view from the balcony).

We have an escape from the noisy city thanks for the absence of the television in room. There is no TV in room but do not worry, you still survive bacause there is wifi :)

 Well there is but that's how I felt when I stepped out the front door of my room in the Mai Chau Ecolodge. I've never been somewhere so serine, calm, quiet and beautiful in my life. The Mai Chau valley is a 3-4 hour drive from Hanoi so really straight forward to get to. I was here as part of a tour so had accommodation all pre arranged beforehand so I am not sure of how much the stay cost. I stayed here for two nights and after the hustle of Hanoi is was a welcome change. We ate in the hotel the first night. Its expensive by Vietnam standards but it is a top quality hotel so to be expected. The staff are excellent and their level of english is impressive. The variety of cocktails and wine on offer too was excellent. The first night there was a local performance put on for the guests which was really sweet. The rooms were amazing and I loved the big wooden bath, the double sinks and the outdoor shower! Each room had its own balcony and seating area overlooking the rice fields below. There are bikes that you can use from the hotel which is a great way to see the local area. There are also walking tours available but we did ours with our guide. As part of our tour we got to eat with a local family one night which was an amazing experience so if you can do! The town is really beautiful and geared for tourism with loads of shops and places to eat/drink. Locals are all very friendly. The hotel pool is also gorgeous and a bonus to have when on holidays. This is a real treat of a hotel and I am delighted I got the opportunity to stay here. Would HIGHLY recommend it if you have the budget!

What a fantastic view from this great hotel the facilities are fantastic everyone seems to enjoy it. We did not eat dinner however the breakfast was great so I suspect the dinner would be just as good. Lots of local cultural opportunities. Honestly rivals a Four Seasons quality rural resort however at much less the price.

 I visited Mai Chau during the most frigid weather the area had had in many years (January 2016). Days were extremely cold (snow), rainy and gray. That being said, the beauty and charm of this hillside lodge was unmistakeable. The rooms are grand and well appointed. The food is wonderful and the staff attentive. The grounds are quite beautiful. The dining lodge however well appointed does not have sufficient heat and it was quite cold for meals. The bar tender had some great specialty cocktails we enjoyed. The spa was lovely, but again, not heated and therefore difficult to use in such cold weather. I did use the steam room and it was fantastic. Definitely walk into the neighboring villages and tour the area. A fellow traveler had the lodge take him up valley and drop him off for a multi village trek back to the lodge and I would have enjoyed doing that had I known earlier. The people in the villages around the lodge are wonderful and friendly, with colorful weavings and goods for sale at very inexpensive prices.

After a business trip to Hanoi this was the perfect rest and relaxation spot. The rooms are wonderful and the outdoor shower was a good laugh. I had a view of the valley, rice fields and mountains and could watch the people working in the field from my terrace. At the lodge itself, physical surroundings are gorgeous, people lovely, guest rooms huge and beautifully decorated in a tribal motif. And this was the first time, in travels anywhere, that I found a small pitcher of complimentary rice wine/sake in the room, right next to the complimentary bottled water!

An excellent choice of hotel for Mai Chau. We had a Deluxe Valley facing double room and twin room interleading for our family of 4.The rooms are charming with romantic bathrooms with outdoor shower. The balcony overlooked the rice paddies and mountains beyond. It was early December and we arrived in drizzle and some mist, but we soooo enjoyed it because of the utter beauty. I took a ride around on the hotels bikes and got immersed in the calm peace and beauty. The sun came out partly and clouds lifted and gave us breathtaking views.I captured stunning photos which i treasure. Thank you Hoi from the travel desk. You went out of your way and took us through the villages on our own personalised guided tour. The local village folk are friendly, hospitable, welcoming and hard working and industrious. I LOVE them!! Their modesty, humility, contentment and appreciation were a stark contrast to the greedy, indulgent, and demanding attitudes so many of us spoilt lazy westerners have....... Mai Chau reminds your soul of what your true values are and that we should all have an attitude of gratitude.Our stay at Mai Chau Ecolodge was a highlight of our holiday in Vietnam. Our half-day private tour by car took us to Pa Co village to experience the Hmong people who craft paper from bamboo and are known for intricate dyed fabrics ("batik"). Bravo à ASIA de nous avoir fait découvrir ce nid de quiétude en espérant que le tourisme n'arrive pas un jour en masse pour tout détruire.

We chose to head inland from Hanoi to Mai Chau instead of going to Halong Bay which proved to be a fantastic choice. We took the "Off Beaten Track Tour" which included a private car to take us to Mai Chau and back to Hanoi and a guide who took us on a bicycle and walking tour of the area outside the lodge. The lodge itself is perfect. The rooms are spacious, very friendly staff and the food is delicious and plenty of it. The location amongst the rice fields provides a fantastic view from the room, restaurant or bar. This is certainly one of the most memorable places I've visited anywhere in the world. Go there now.

This place consists of bungalows spread around the side of a small hill in the middle of the pool, with reception and restaurant at the top. Our family of 4 had 2 connecting rooms, which meant 1 bungalow. The rooms were spatious, clean and beautifully decorated. They had a large terrace in the front and a walled courtyard in the rear that had an outdoor shower. The bathroom contained a huge wooden bathtub with a shower above. There is no tv, but wifi is available. The outlook from the terrace was amazing, with views of rice paddies, scattered villages and mountains. It was a fabulous change from the noise and traffic of Hanoi. The pool was really nice. Breakfast was served in the restaurant and had a small selection of western and asian food. We ate 2 meals in the restaurant, both were good. The menu offered a choice of vietnamese and western. Main courses started at about 100k, but went up to over 300k for some dishes. The lodge is about 1km from Mai Chau town, which can be accessed on foot, or free bicycles are supplied. Staff were very friendly, and always greeted us whenever we saw them. Service was excellent, bags happily taken to/from rooms, towels supplied for pool, restaurant staff always friendly. Lots of staff had very limited english but it was evident that they have been trying very hard to learn. This place was one of the highlights of our trip to Vienam. We would come here again, no question.

Ho trascorso due notti in questo, meraviglioso, incredibile, stupefacente EcoLodge che si trova in una valle tra le mille vette di Mai Chau. La struttura è totalmente costruita nel pieno rispetto della natura e con la volontà di aiutare le minoranze del luogo ad avere una rendita fissa. La struttura infatti è gestita da oltre 60 persone appartenenti alle minoranze che si occupano di seguire un ristorante, una spa, e tutti i lavori che la struttura richiede. Le stanze sono all'interno di bungalow da sogno che si affacciano sulla vallata coltivata a risaie. E' possibile anche prendere delle biciclette e fare una passeggiata tra i campi e i villaggi della zona dove il tempo sembra essersi arrestato.

 This hotel is first class. A few friends recommended it and related how amazing it was. My wife and I researched the hotel before booking and were very impressed. We stayed there late June/2015. "Mai chau Ecolodge" as locals call it, is the most beautiful hotel we have ever stayed at. The Vietnamese style is amazing, you really feel like you have stepped back in time, although it has modern amenities. We spent 2 days there and we both fell in love with the hotel from moment we arrived. The on-site restaurants are very good and the view from the house is amazing. The staff was eager to please and the Mai chau weather is beyond perfect. The off-site restaurants in Mai Chau were also very good and are only a short walking distance from the hotel. We will be going back!!!!

 De ecolodge was net geopend toen wij hier in juli waren. Wij kregen een lodge onderaan de heuvel direct met direct uitzicht op de rijstvelden. Een binnen en buiten badkamer, en een platje voor de deur. Het zwembad is boven bij het restaurant, prachtig gelegen, mooie ligstoelen. Wij maakten een fietstocht door de rijstvelden, met fietsen van de ecolodge. De dorpjes in de omgeving zijn authentiek met vriendelijke mensen die wel wat hulp kunnen gebruiken door aankoop van leuke souveniers die in de dorpjes gemaakt worden, S avonds een vast menu, prima keuken, Europees getint. Zeer vriendelijke bediening door lokale meisjes en jongens onder leiding van een ervaren, goed Engelssprekende maitre. Na het eten een dans show door de personeelsleden van de ecolodge. We hadden helaas maar voor 1 nacht geboekt op onze reis door Noord Vietnam. Zeker een aanrader voor meer dagen.

Set in the hills north of Hanoi, the Mai Chau Ecolodge looks out over a beautiful rural vista of paddy fields and farm life. The semi-detached, thatched cabins are very nicely appointed with air-conditioning and spacious bathroom. From the front porch you have a front row seat watching life come and go including the water buffalo and the farmers tending their fields from 7.30-noon, and again in the "cool" of the evening. The lodge has a good restaurant, a separate "panorama bar", free wifi and a swimming pool. It is also walking distance to the local village (an area with other ethnic groups, mainly Thai) which also has a sunset bar and small eatery. If you are ready for a time-out from the hustle and bustle of Hanoi, consider Mai Chau and it's new eocolodge.

We booked direct with the Hanoi sales office and were treated like kings. But not a day tour, it was a 4 nights stay. Great food and unbelievably friendly and service minded staff. One night during dinner the power went so no light and no air con. Immediately the waiters started to use hand held fans to make it cooler for us and cell phones with flash to give us light. We felt like Cesar and Cleopatra. Once we had taken a sip of our drink, our glasses were immediately refilled. Great great large rooms, brand new, excellent design and a wonderful view over the rice fields and we borrowed bicycles with a local guide who took us to her family's house on stilks and we saw exciting surroundings. It's so authentic and not spoiled yet. No tourist trap here, you can relax and enjoy Vietnam at it's best. No pushy sales people. We ordered a private car to pick us up and drive us back, we expected the usual wreckage but it was brand new, no bad smoke smell, well functioning safety belts, what a pleasure. Go before it's too late. We stayed 4 nights. We recommend no less than 3 nights.

 We stayed in this hotel at the end of a two week tour of Cambodia and Vietnam and it was just what we needed. There is nothing to criticize. The hotel is situated with views of the paddy fields and dramatic mountains. There are great facilities [spa and pool]. The staff are charming and welcoming. The meals were inclusive and extremely generous. Wine prices were very realistic. You can take interesting walks and cycle rides and there is no pressure from vendors.

We stayed here for 3 nights and was one of our favourite places, the actual village of Mai Chau is a bit of a tourist trap but this lodge is set away in the middle of the rice paddies, and its easy to get away from this and experience village life. Chung took us to a market on the Sunday and to a village about 40k away where we were able to experience all manner of different trading going on and we stumbled across a wedding and saw the H'mong hilltribes in their traditional dress a real treat for our young children. We also spent the afternoon with chung and Lamb and went for a ride around the local village and walked through some rice paddies, falling in at one point to much laughter, and then stopped for some amazing jack fruit yoghurt - the best I have ever tasted. Chung said that they like guests to feel part of their family and I can honestly say we did, everyone was great with our young children and we had a lot of fun, This lodge employs people from the local community and I was sad to read previous reviews about the English spoken at this resort being poor, our experience was we could always make ourselves understood and the staff were having English lessons everyday and learning the language, it really was not a problem. The accommodation and pool was lovely as was the spa, the only bad thing was we had to leave, we spent 3 nights here, we noticed most people were whizzing in and out staying only 1 night, I think you need more to appreciate this really beautiful place.

Though we only stayed one night, and though the drive to Mai Chau was long, our one night at this hotel and our walks and bike rides in the vicinity were the highlight of our two-week trip to Vietnam. I could have stayed another week. It's a surprisingly professional, comfortable, spacious, well-equipped, well-designed hotel in a remote but beautiful place. Staff are kind and friendly. Food is good. Get up early to see the villagers at work in the rice paddies. There is generosity and friendliness everywhere.

 This hotel, about 4 hours away from Hanoi, is well worth a visit. It's location, in the beautiful scenery of the Mai Chau valley, is breathtaking, and the architecture of the hotel fits in perfectly with the environment. The rooms, or lodges, are fabulous, very spacious, each with a balcony and gorgeous bathroom. The food is delicious; we were trying to decide what to choose on our first evening only to be told that the menu choice was for everything, and every course was delicious and the breakfasts were superb with plenty of choice of high quality fresh food. The staff are very courteous and helpful and provided cookery lessons and traditional Vietnamese dancing while we were there. All-in-all, an experience not to be missed.

We spent two nights at the Ecolodge, and we were very pleased.
We had a guide all the way from the pickup in Hanoi, till we were back in Hanoi 3 days later.
He was a perfect mix of leaving us alone when we needed it, and showing us aound in the area.
We went cycling in the ricepaddies, and had a very interesting visit to a local market and a local Hmong village, where there also were an extra guide who knew the village and the people there. This was a really nice tour, where we did not see any other foreigners.
The rooms on the Ecolodge are nice and well equipped, and the food is fine.
Much recommended!

The perfect escape from Vietnam's bustling cities! We sat on the veranda, surrounded by the hills and rice fields, listening to the sound of ducks waddling through the dried rice fields. Great cycling through the local markets and villages. Relaxing, serene, peaceful. Food from the restaurant was incredible. The massage was ... interesting ... but better than no massage at all ;) It was too cold to use the pool but I wish it had been warmer because the location of it was stunning. 3 days and 2 nights was the perfect length of time.
